De Overeenkomst en het Protocol zullen op grond van artikel 21, derde lid, van de Overeenkomst op 30 april 2004 buiten werking treden tussen de Tsjechische Republiek enerzijds en het Koninkrijk der Nederlanden anderzijds.

I. OPZEGGING

De Regering van de Tsjechische Republiek heeft bij nota van 30 oktober 2003 (waarvan de tekst – voor zover van belang – in rubriek J hieronder is opgenomen) de Overeenkomst opgezegd.

Op 30 oktober 2003 heeft de Regering van de Tsjechische Republiek de Regering van het Koninkrijk der Nederlanden de volgende nota doen toekomen, waarvan de tekst – voor zover van belang – als volgt luidt:

The Embassy of the Czech Republic in the Hague presents its compliments to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Netherlands and has the honour to convey the following information:

With regard to its upcoming accession to the European Union in 2004, the Czech Republic is obliged to adjust its treaty basis to comply with the principles and legal standards of the European Union. In the interest of effective participation in the European Union's activities, it will also be bound by the entire system of EU law. However, the Czech Republic's bilateral treaty basis includes certain international treaties, which are not fully compatible with the aforementioned standards of the European Union.

Under these circumstances, with regard to the time limits and technical concerns, the Czech Republic regrettably finds it necessary to hereby denounce the following agreements:

2. Abkommen zwischen der Regierung der Tschechischen und Slowakischen Föderativen Republik und der Regierung des Königreiches der Niederlande über die Binnenschiffahrt/Prague, 30.10.1991; in accordance with its Article 21, the treaty will terminate on 30.4.2004;

Despite the above fact, the Czech side remains committed to continuing and developing the traditional friendly relations and cooperation between our two countries.

The Embassy of the Czech Republic avails itself of this opportunity to renew to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Netherlands the assurances of its highest consideration.
