Het Verdrag dat ingevolge artikel VIII, eerste lid, tot 3 juni 2002 van kracht was, is met ingang van die datum tot 3 juni 2003 verlengd ingevolge de in rubriek J hieronder opgenomen briefwisseling.

Wat het Koninkrijk der Nederlanden betreft, blijft het onderhavige Verdrag voor het gehele Koninkrijk gelden.

J. GEGEVENS

Op 30 mei 2002 heeft te 's-Gravenhage een notawisseling plaatsgevonden tussen de regering van het Koninkrijk der Nederlanden en de regering van Japan. De tekst van de nota's, waarin een verdrag tot verlenging van het onderhavige Verdrag is vervat, luidt als volgt:

Excellency,

I have the honour to refer to the Agreement between the Government of Japan and the Government of the Kingdom of the Netherlands on Co-operation in Science and Technology (hereinafter referred to as ``the Agreement"), signed at Tokyo on November 5, 1996. I have further the honour to confirm, on behalf of the Government of Japan, the following understanding reached recently between the representatives of the two Governments:

The Agreement shall be extended for a period of one year from June 3, 2002.

I have further the honour to propose that this Note and your Excellency's Note in reply confirming on behalf of the Government of the Kingdom of the Netherlands the foregoing understanding shall be regarded as constituting an agreement between the two Governments.

I avail myself of this opportunity to extend to Your Excellency the assurance of my highest consideration.

Het in de brieven vervatte verdrag behoeft ingevolge artikel 7, onderdeel c, van de Rijkswet goedkeuring en bekendmaking verdragen niet de goedkeuring van de Staten-Generaal.

Het in de brieven vervatte verdrag is ingevolge het in de één na laatste alinea van brief Nr. II gestelde op 30 mei 2002 in werking getreden.

Wat het Koninkrijk der Nederlanden betreft, geldt het in de brieven vervatte verdrag voor het gehele Koninkrijk.

In overeenstemming met artikel 19, tweede lid, van de Rijkswet goedkeuring en bekendmaking verdragen heeft de Minister van Buitenlandse Zaken bepaald dat het in de brieven vervatte verdrag zal zijn bekend-gemaakt in het gehele Koninkrijk op de dag na de datum van uitgifte van dit Tractatenblad.
