Op 16 december 1999 zijn te 's-Gravenhage nota's gewisseld tussen de Britse en de Nederlandse Regering tot verlenging van het Verdrag in overeenstemming met zijn artikel 29, tweede lid. De tekst van de nota's luidt als volgt:

Her Britannic Majesty's Embassy present their compliments to the Royal Netherlands Ministry of Foreign Affairs and have the honour to refer to the Agreement between the Government of the Kingdom of the Netherlands and the Government of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland concerning a Scottish trial in the Netherlands, which was signed on 18 September 1998 and entered into force, in accordance with Article 29(1), on 8 January 1999.

The trial is now due to begin on 3 May 2000 and may last for more than a year. The Embassy have therefore the honour to propose, pursuant to Article 29(2), that the Agreement shall, subject to Article 29 (3)(a) and (4), continue in force for as long as necessary.

If this proposal is acceptable to the Government of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, the Embassy have the honour to propose that this Note, and the Ministry's reply in that sense, shall together constitute an agreement between the Parties which shall enter into force on the day of the Ministry's reply.

The Embassy avail themselves of this opportunity to renew to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs the assurance of their highest consideration.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs presents its compliments to the Embassy of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland and has the honour to refer to the Embassy's Note of today's date relating to the Agreement between the Government of the Kingdom of the Netherlands and the Government of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland concerning a Scottish trial in the Netherlands of 18 September 1998, which reads as follows:

The Ministry has the further honour to confirm that the Government of the Kingdom of the Netherlands agrees with the proposals that the Agreement shall, subject to Article 29 (3)(a) and (4), continue in force for as long as necessary, and that the Embassy's Note and the present Note shall together constitute an agreement between the Parties which shall enter into force today.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs avails itself of this opportunity to renew to the Embassy the assurances of its highest consideration.

Het voornemen tot verlenging van het onderhavige Verdrag is op 12 oktober 1999 in overeenstemming met artikel 9, eerste lid, van de Rijkswet goedkeuring en bekendmaking verdragen, en met het oog op artikel 7, onderdeel e, van die Rijkswet medegedeeld aan de Eerste en de Tweede Kamer der Staten-Generaal.

Het in de nota's vervatte verdrag is ingevolge de voorlaatste alinea van de nota's op 16 december 1999 in werking getreden.

In overeenstemming met artikel 19, tweede lid, van de Rijkswet goedkeuring en bekendmaking verdragen heeft de Minister van Buitenlandse Zaken bepaald dat het verdrag zal zijn bekendgemaakt in Nederland op de dag na de datum van uitgifte van dit Tractatenblad.
